STEPPING OUT AT HAZELWOOD HALL !

Keen walkers Mike and Janet Barber put their best foot forward to find a new holiday home in Lancashire and stumbled across a magnificent Victorian mansion.

The Stockport couple were hoping for a second property in the stunning village of Silverdale, one of their favourite holiday destinations, when they discovered Hazelwood Hall, which has been transformed into 21 appealing apartments.

Thanks to developers Pringle Homes, the property, set in 18.5 acres of mature woodland and gardens, has been restored to its former glory and Mike, a chartered civil engineer and Janet, have bought a luxury two-bedroom home.

Said Mike:“Hazelwood Hall is a walker’s dream. You can take a different walk in a different direction every day and see some of the most beautiful scenery."

“We have been coming to Silverdale as visitors since the 90s and it is one of our favourite holiday destinations so we were keen to buy somewhere for weekends to take advantage of the countryside."

“It was when we visited Silverdale and drove in a different way that we stumbled across the hall and we were delighted with the setting.”

The hall, originally a family home until it was bequeathed to the Roman Catholic Church just after the Second World War, subsequently became a convent, before being used as a private nursing home.

A host of period features have been retained in the apartments, including intricate high ceilings, complemented with the latest kitchens, bathrooms and panoramic views of ancient woodland.

The Nuns’ Quarters were rebuilt, in keeping with the original building, offering a further 11 sumptuous apartments.

The couple, who live in Romiley, Stockport, have three children. They have bought an apartment in the East Wing and aim to visit most weekends.
